Sidecar

The Sidecar was invented in a bar in Paris during World War I for a customer. The customer was an American Army captain and was driven to and from the bar in a motorcycle sidecar, hence its name.

The Sidecar was first introduced to London by MacGarry, an ever popular bar-tender of Buck's Club.

The sidecar originally involved mixing six to seven ingredients, whereas nowadays the sidecar only contains three or four ingredients.

The Recipe

This recipe serves 1

• 2 measures brandy
• 1 measure Cointreau
• Juice of half a lemon

Add all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Strain over ice in a martini glass with a sugared rim.

Tip: A sidecar should be made using a Cognac as opposed to an ordinary brandy.
