Sloe Comfortable Screw

'I'd like a sloe comfortable screw, please.'

You think that cocktails with suggestive names are an invention of the 90s? Think again. During the Summer of Love they were having Sex on the Beach.

The sixties saw a bit of a revolution in cocktails - or the naming of them at least. Bartenders took the names and ingredients of earlier cocktails, experimented a bit - as people did in the sixties - and came up with new punning names.

Take Sloe (or Slow) Comfortable Screw for example. A Screwdriver comprises vodka and orange juice. Add some Sloe gin to that and you have a slow screw. Mix in some Southern Comfort and you've got your name.

Go a bit further and add some Galliano and you're Against the Wall. (Galliano added to a screwdriver creates a Harvey Wallbanger.) And so on and so on …

But to get back to your Sloe Comfortable Screw, you need:

• 1 part vodka
• 1 part sloe gin
• 1 part Southern Comfort
• 1 part orange juice
